![]() ![]() The game starts with Adam moving to a new location, with no friends. In EcoQuest: The Search for Cetus, you play a little boy named Adam who is the son of an ecologist and was brought up to value preserving the Earth. In the first scene, please input code 9731 into a security door to exit the room. The Search for Cetus introduced the recycling symbol to Sierra's standard palette of command icons, giving the player bonus points for picking up litter. Aside from the considerable liberty of sentient talking animals, the game is more realistic than cartoony - it needs to be, to tell about the real world's environment and pollution. He has assistance in the form of several creatures found in the various ecosystems of the world for instance, a dolphin named Delphineus is an important contributor to the quest. In no time flat, he's trying to seek out Cetus, the whale king of Eluria, an underwater kingdom populated by marine animals. Adam's attempts to help a dolphin his father has rescued take a turn for the weirder when it starts speaking. If the sea life is not as interesting to you, maybe the rainforest habitat will spark more interest. The first installment, titled The Search for Cetus, was released first on floppy disk, then on CD-ROM with full speech. Otherwise it's not a bad game, maybe just a bit too silly with the story it wants to tell, but then again, we all need a bit of fantasy now and then. Maybe a bit too preachy a game, so maybe for kids, but then again, if you love undersea life and fantastical stories, this might entice you as well. Technically it's all done in Sierra age and style point and click, so if you're familiar with that kind of controls you'll feel at home here too. By way of the magic of games (and suspension of disbelief!) you'll follow him under the sea and will find out more about what needs to be done here, as lots of work is required there are. But, hey, this is no ordinary dolphin turns out it can actually talk and it can transport you (and want to do it!) to his ocean city. There, one of your first adventures will be to befriend a dolphin. In fact, after you start the game, you are travelling to a new city. Anyway, you, Adam, the protagonist is a kid that loves animals. I wouldn't say that this game is your proper edutainment suite, but it sure tries to educate, without a doubt, and, to a point it makes a case. ![]()
